Highlights from BSB

April 2025

Dear BSB Community,

The Spring Term has now come to an end and it’s a good moment to look back at the many events, milestones and achievements from the past few weeks. It was a vibrant and fulfilling time across the School, enriched by a wide range of activities that brought learning to life and strengthened our sense of community. We’re pleased to share some highlights from the second half of the Spring Term and we thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm.

The Arctic Challenge

This year’s Arctic Challenge gave our students an unforgettable opportunity to develop resilience, confidence and collaboration in a unique outdoor setting. The challenge included team-based physical and mental activities designed to simulate the demands of a polar expedition. Students took on a series of exciting tasks that encouraged problem-solving, communication and endurance, all while having fun and supporting one another. The experience was both engaging and rewarding and helped students discover new strengths within themselves. We are proud of everyone who took part!

Book Week

Book Week was a joyful celebration of reading and imagination across the school. One of the highlights was D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read), where students and staff paused each day to enjoy a quiet moment with a good book. We were delighted to welcome Tanya Landman, an award-winning author, who inspired our students with her engaging stories. Mr Clive PiG also joined us for a lively storytelling session that captured the attention of our younger pupils. The week ended with a colourful dress-up day, with students and staff arriving as their favourite book characters.

World Scholar’s Cup

Two BSB teams took part in the Local Round of the World Scholar’s Cup, joining students from across Romania and beyond. They participated in a variety of academic challenges including debate, collaborative writing and the Scholars’ Bowl. Throughout the event, our students demonstrated curiosity, teamwork and a strong sense of commitment. Their outstanding performance earned them a remarkable number of medals and qualification for the Global Rounds. We were proud of the way they represented BSB and embraced every part of the experience.

Model United Nations (MUN) Conference

This second half of the Spring Term, we were pleased to host a Model United Nations (MUN) Conference at BSB, welcoming delegates from our school and visiting schools. The conference centred around the theme Navigating Conflicts: Wars Without Weapons. Aimed at students aged 11 to 14, the event offered a space to explore diplomacy and peaceful solutions to global challenges. Participants engaged in thoughtful debate and developed their confidence, communication and leadership skills. It was a pleasure to see our students working together with purpose and maturity.

Spring of Strings

Spring of Strings was a warm and uplifting event that celebrated the talents of our young musicians. The concert featured a lovely selection of string performances, each one demonstrating the dedication and progress of the students involved. It was a wonderful way to welcome the season and share the joy of music with the school community. We thank everyone who contributed to this special occasion.

Year 2 Production – Dragon Day

Our Year 2 pupils gave a lively and imaginative performance of Dragon Day, bringing their story to life with confidence and enthusiasm. Every scene reflected their hard work and growing stage presence. The production was the result of great teamwork between pupils and staff and it was a pleasure to see them shine.

Year 3 Work Showcase

The Year 3 Work Showcase gave pupils the opportunity to present their projects and ideas with pride. From creative writing to cross-curricular work, everything on display reflected their curiosity and growing confidence as learners. Pupils spoke clearly and enthusiastically when sharing their work with visitors. The event was a real celebration of progress and imagination.

Tea-Time Concert

This term’s Tea-Time Concert brought together performances from pupils and students across both Primary and Secondary. From piano pieces to vocal solos, each performance showed personal growth and a love of music. The informal atmosphere made it a relaxed and enjoyable event for performers and families alike. We thank all who participated and supported the performers.

Spring Music Concert

The Spring Music Concert was a vibrant showcase of musical talent across the school. Students performed confidently in both solo and group pieces, reflecting commitment and progress. The audience enjoyed a varied programme that highlighted different musical styles and instruments. We are grateful to all the students, staff and families who made this event a success.

Primary Spellathon Competition

Our pupils rose to the challenge in Primary Spellathon. They tackled tricky words and timed rounds with focus and determination. It was encouraging to see them support one another and take pride in their effort. Congratulations to all who took part for showing such enthusiasm and perseverance.

Year 1 Production – Toy Time Travel

In Toy Time Travel, our Year 1 pupils took the audience on an imaginative journey through the past and present. Their storytelling, music and enthusiasm lit up the stage. The production was full of charm and creative moments that reflected their growing confidence. It was a delightful experience for everyone involved.

Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon

Pupils from across Primary took on the ambitious task of performing all the Brothers Grimm fairy tales in one fast-paced show. The Spectaculathon was filled with energy, humour and quick scene changes that kept the audience engaged. Pupils worked hard to link the stories into one fun and creative performance. It was a fantastic way to bring storytelling and theatre together.

Climb for Good

This term, BSB hosted a fundraising event in support of Climb Again, a charity that provides climbing therapy for children and young people with disabilities. Pupils and students took part in friendly climbing challenges while learning about inclusion and physical confidence. The event was a success thanks to the enthusiasm of everyone who participated. We are proud to support such meaningful work.

Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards

BSB once again recognised the academic success of its students through the Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards. Five students received a total of eight awards, including the highest marks in the world for English Literature and for Art, Craft and Design. Further awards included the highest mark in Europe for Business and the top marks in Romania for English, Biology, Physics, Mathematics and Advanced Mathematics. These achievements reflected academic excellence and the hard work and commitment of both students and staff.

Year 6 Work Showcase

The Year 6 Work Showcase was a special opportunity for pupils to share what they had learned this term. From science experiments to personal writing, the projects showed creativity and depth of understanding. Pupils presented their work with confidence and pride. It was a lovely way to bring families into the learning process and mark the end of a successful term.

Year 4 Chocolate Workshop

To support their learning in Year 4, the pupils had a fantastic opportunity to take part in a chocolate workshop. They tasted a variety of flavours and colours of chocolate, including pink strawberry-flavoured chocolate, orange orange-flavoured chocolate, as well as caramel, dark, white and milk chocolate.
The workshop complemented their Humanities work as they learned about the history of chocolate and it also enhanced their understanding of food processes by exploring how chocolate is made. To finish, the children used melted chocolate to decorate an Oreo biscuit with a Willy Wonka-inspired design, linking the activity to their class novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

As we close this term, we thank our students, families and staff for their energy, care and contribution to school life. The term has been full of memorable moments and we are proud of all that has been achieved.
We wish everyone a restful and enjoyable holiday and look forward to seeing you again for the final term of the academic year!

Warm regards,
The BSB Team
