BSB University: Enhancing a Quality British Education
We have successfully run our Wednesday afternoon BSB University programme for more than 10 years as a way of personalising Primary pupils’ learning through skills development that sits outside of the National Curriculum for England. The BSB University programme truly enhances the quality British education that students receive at the British School of Bucharest.
Three times a year, Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils can choose from a range of exciting extra-curricular courses run by staff during school time and supported by parents and volunteers. Pupils receive a certificate in recognition of the specific skills learned on completion of the course.
BSB University courses
The courses make the quality British education that we provide more interesting and engaging, helping pupils to develop skills in drama, dance, music, art, crafts, electronics, food technology, history and languages. We regularly add new and exciting courses, with one of our most recent additions, ‘DIY Organic Products’, teaching pupils how to make interesting products from simple household ingredients. Making a bath bomb from baking soda and citric acid has been very popular with pupils at the BSB University!
‘The Show Must Go On’ course for Year 5 and 6 supported our pupils in developing their own piece of drama which they performed to the Key Stage 2 children. ‘Crumble Electronics’ is another challenging course, with small teams of pupils given the task of designing, making, wiring and programming interactive movie adverts, using a basic circuit board, LEDs, motors and infrared sensors, as well as a lot of card and tape!
