February 2026
Dear BSB Community,
The first half of the Spring Term has moved swiftly from stage performances to live music and cooking challenges, with many beautiful snowy days brightening the campus along the way. Nupeh transformed into a fairy tale kingdom for Game of Tiaras, coursework drama took centre stage at the Drama Festival, bands filled the Marquee with pop-rock energy and young chefs faced the suspense of the Mystery Box at the So You Think You Can Cook? competition. Friendship Week brought engaging activities across the school. Together, these moments have shaped a lively start to the term.
👑 Game of Tiaras
Our Primary School Production of Game of Tiaras by Don Zolidis brought satire and fairy tale characters together in a fast-paced theatrical comedy. Inspired by the structure of King Lear, the story follows an ageing king who attempts to divide his magical kingdom between his daughters, only for ambition and competing claims to complicate his plan. Pupils brought the characters to life and performed with growing confidence and joy.
🎭 Drama Festival
The Drama Festival offered insight into the performance coursework of our IGCSE and A-Level students. Year 10 presented extracts from The Good Woman of Setzuan, Macbeth, DNA and A Monster Calls, engaging with themes of morality, ambition and responsibility. Year 11’s devised piece The Grey Theft! turned a missing cake into a staged investigation filled with shifting suspicion, while AS-Level students explored innovation and ethics through their original production HumANITY. The evening reflected sustained rehearsal, detailed text interpretation and deliberate physical and vocal choices on stage.
🎸 BSB Bands Rock Out!
The Marquee shifted into concert mode as our BSB Bands delivered an evening of live performances. Different student groups performed covers of well-known pop-rock and rock songs, each interpreting the setlist with its own musical dynamic. Some performances foregrounded confident vocals, others emphasised tight instrumental coordination, but all relied on collective rhythm and rehearsal discipline. The evening closed with a preview from Bugsy Malone, offering audiences a first live glimpse of the sound and atmosphere of our upcoming school production.
👨🍳 So You Think You Can Cook?
The Food Tech became once again the setting for this year’s So You Think You Can Cook? competition. During the Preliminary Rounds, students from Years 5 to 9 prepared a signature dish within one hour, assessed on taste, presentation, creativity and complexity. The Final introduced the Mystery Box Challenge, requiring competitors to plan and execute dishes using a selection of surprise ingredients within a structured time frame. With the clock ticking, students measured, adjusted and carefully presented their dishes.
We congratulate all participants, as well as this year’s Primary and Secondary winners!
💛 Friendship Week
Friendship Week introduced a varied programme of activities across both Primary and Secondary. In Secondary, students rotated between Friendship Bingo, three-legged races in the Marquee, tower-building challenges on the pitches, Mario Kart and film time in the Drama Studio. In Primary, pupils engaged in planned activities within their designated areas, creating opportunities for teamwork and shared challenges.
🎶 Tea-Time Concert
The Tea-Time Concert offered an opportunity for both instrumentalists and vocalists to perform for families and staff. Soloists and small groups shared a variety of pieces, each bringing their own interpretation to the stage. Students performed with focus and confidence, enjoying the opportunity to share their music with a live audience.
📚 Year 4 Work Showcase
Year 4 welcomed families into school for their Work Showcase, presenting learning from across subjects. Pupils guided visitors through selected projects and explained aspects of their work in their own words. The event provided insight into classroom learning and allowed them to present confidently to an audience beyond their peers. It created a meaningful opportunity for dialogue between home and school.
As we conclude this half term, we thank you for your continued engagement in school life. We hope the upcoming holiday provides time to rest and recharge. We look forward to welcoming students back for another exciting half term ahead!
