A Thriving Start to the New Academic Year at BSB

The academic year at The British School of Bucharest (BSB) kicked off with a vibrant Start of School event, where students, new teachers, and existing staff were warmly welcomed back. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as everyone reunited, marking not only the beginning of a new school year but also the celebration of 25 years of academic excellence.

Embracing Charitable Initiatives

September was a month of giving, highlighted by the launch of our Backpack Appeal, a true reflection of our school community’s generous spirit. Students, parents, and staff rallied together to gather essential school supplies for disadvantaged children supported by our partner charities: Casa Ioana, Bufkids, and Fundația Inocenți. The response was nothing short of overwhelming, showcasing the compassion that defines our community.

In addition to the Backpack Appeal, we participated in Jeans for Genes Day, where students wore their favourite denim in support of those with genetic conditions. The day was filled with camaraderie and fun, all while raising important funds for this worthy cause. Meanwhile, the Casa Ioana Sleepout saw our dedicated Sixth Form students and teachers spending a night outdoors to raise awareness and funds for the homeless, reinforcing the importance of empathy and social responsibility.

Engaging in Enriching Experiences

As the school year kicked off, our academic team was hands-on, ready to guide students through another year following the British Curriculum. This year, we proudly offer over 140 Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs), and students eagerly signed up to explore new interests and develop their skills outside the classroom.

Trips have been a highlight of the first month, immersing students in real-world experiences. Year 12-13 enjoyed a thrilling outing to a bowling venue, while Year 6 visited the Bucharest War Cemetery, learning about history and paying respects to those who served. Meanwhile, Reception explored the natural beauty of Băneasa Forest and Year 5 visited the Planetarium, sparking curiosity about the universe. The Year 10 students ventured to Zalhanaua for their Geography Field Trip, where they studied river dynamics using various measuring techniques, returning to the classroom invigorated and ready to connect their fieldwork with theoretical studies.

In addition, our Debating Team from Year 5-8 participated in the Winston Churchill Debating competition at IBSB, honing their public speaking and critical thinking skills and and Year 4 had a wonderful learning experience at Orășelul Cunoașterii. Every trip not only enriches their learning but also fosters teamwork and collaboration among peers, creating memories that last a lifetime.

Looking Ahead

As we embrace October, we are currently collecting non-perishable food items for our Harvest Collection, running from 30th September to 11th October. Upcoming events also include the Cafe of Cultures, which will celebrate the diverse traditions and languages of our community, the BSB Autumn Cup, the exciting inter-school football competition, and the highly anticipated Harry Potter Book Night.

As we reflect on the vibrant start to the school year, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. With a strong commitment to academic excellence and community engagement, this year promises to be filled with learning, growth, and a deepened sense of belonging at BSB.
