October 2024
Greetings, BSB Community!
We are delighted to share the exciting updates from the first half of this Autumn Term. It has been a remarkable start to the academic year, filled with achievements, celebrations, and memorable moments. Join us as we reflect on the wonderful accomplishments of our students and the vibrant spirit of our BSB Community!

Start of the School Year
The 2024-2025 academic year began with a burst of excitement, especially as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of our School. Students, parents, teachers, and staff gathered for another bright and successful year. Our school’s opening event was a joyous occasion, filled with laughter and smiles. We’re thrilled to have shared these special moments and look forward to many more happy days ahead!

Back-to-School Backpacks
Our Back-to-School Backpack Appeal, in partnership with local charities Casa Ioana, Fundația Inocenți, and Bufkids, highlighted the compassion of our community. You generously donated fully equipped backpacks filled with essential school supplies to support these non-profit organisations working with children in need.
This initiative, which instils a sense of responsibility and community service, allowed our students to actively participate in making a tangible difference. A heartfelt well done to all involved!

Sunset Soirée
Our community came together for the Sunset Soirée, a beautiful celebration of unity and diversity. Open to all parents, the Soirée proved to be a fantastic occasion for connecting with fellow members of the BSB Community while enjoying delicious cuisine prepared by the talented chefs from Takanaka. The event provided parents with a wonderful opportunity to get to know other BSB parents, members of the School Community, and teachers in a relaxed, informal setting.

Jeans for Genes
The BSB Community proudly supported Jeans for Genes, with students and staff wearing denim to raise funds for children with genetic disorders. This small but meaningful gesture showed our collective commitment to supporting vital research and care. Your participation made a real impact, contributing to a brighter future for these children. A huge thank you to everyone who took part in this noble cause!

Café of Cultures
This year’s Café of Cultures was an enchanting event! BSB parents proudly showcased their countries’ unique cultures through vibrant stalls offering traditional dishes, activities, and cultural insights. Our students explored a world of flavours, languages, and traditions, mingling with parents and discovering the richness of our multicultural environment. The event promoted an appreciation of cultural and linguistic diversity. Classes from Years 3 to 13 took turns visiting the Café, using quiz cards to learn about the various cultures represented. We’re already looking forward to the next one!

Casa Ioana Sleepout
Our Sixth Form students, alongside their teachers, participated in the Casa Ioana Sleepout, spending a night outdoors to raise awareness and support for families experiencing homelessness.
Sleeping outside for one night gave our students a glimpse into the challenges faced by many, deepening their empathy and resolve to make a difference. We’re incredibly proud of their dedication and concern for others.

Harvest Collection
Our community came together once again for the Harvest Collection, contributing non-perishable food and cleaning items to support St. Stelian Association, a charity in Bucharest that assists vulnerable children, families, and the elderly. The generosity of our community ensures that those in need will receive nourishing meals and essential supplies as winter approaches. Heartfelt thanks to all who participated!

War Cemetery Visit
Our Year 6 pupils visited the War Cemetery to honour the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in battle. With reverence, they laid flowers, each blossom symbolising gratitude for the heroes of the past. They also sketched their surroundings, capturing the solemnity of the moment while reflecting on the lessons of history.
This visit was an integral part of their learning in English, Humanities, and Art, providing both personal and academic insights.

Breis - Hip Hop Literacy
As part of our Black History Month celebrations, BSB had the pleasure of hosting Breis, a renowned UK hip-hop artist. His dynamic workshops gave our students a unique learning experience, blending literacy, creativity, and performance.
Students became creators, learning to express themselves through music and words. They even took the stage, showcasing their newfound skills and confidence. This event left a lasting impression, inspiring students to engage with language and storytelling in a whole new way.

Harvest Production
Our Autumn Term concluded on a festive note with the Harvest Production performed by our talented Year 4 pupils. Their harvest-themed poems and songs celebrated the abundance of the season, reminding us all of the importance of gratitude and giving back.
The performance was a resounding success, and the audience was filled with pride and admiration. Let’s give a big round of applause to our wonderful Year 4 pupils!

Harry Potter Book Night
Our students from Year 4 to Year 8 were transported to the magical world of Hogwarts for Harry Potter Book Night. The event featured a Sorting Ceremony, magical games, quizzes, and spell-casting activities, all inspired by the beloved book series. The venue was beautifully decorated, and students were treated to snacks inspired by the famous foods from the books. The evening captured the imagination of our students, sparking their love for reading and adventure while creating unforgettable memories.

Teatime Concert
The Teatime Concert was a delightful evening that showcased the incredible talents of students from Year 3 to Year 13, featuring an impressive variety of performances. From solo pieces to captivating duets, students played a wide range of instruments and shared their vocal talents. The event served as a true celebration of musical expression and student artistry, leaving everyone with wonderful emotions and cherished memories!
