March 2024
Dear BSB Community,
We’re thrilled to share some exciting updates with you. The second half of the Spring Term has been truly remarkable, filled with achievements from our students and wonderful moments within our community. Join us in celebrating these highlights!

Chinese New Year
The Chinese New Year celebration at BSB was a vibrant event for both Secondary and Primary students. In Secondary, students gathered in the Drama Room on 28th February to enjoy Chinese songs, poems, dances, and snacks. Meanwhile, in EYFS, pupils engaged in activities throughout the week, including learning about Lunar New Year traditions from Korea and China. Parent visitors also shared insights, enriching the cultural exchange and learning experience.

The Arctic Challenge
Our students at the British School of Bucharest had an unforgettable experience at the Arctic Challenge. They navigated icy tracks and drove electric vehicles on a frozen lake.
This year marked our third participation, with students showcasing their technical prowess from Project Zephyr. The blend of education, innovation, and adventure made it a truly memorable experience, offering valuable lifelong lessons in personal growth and fulfilment.

Mărțișor
From 28th February to 1st March, the BSB Campus hosted a heartwarming Charity Initiative in support of Fundația Inocenți and Bufkids. Attendees had the opportunity to purchase unique Mărțișor bracelets, lovingly handmade by members of both organizations, with all proceeds going towards the cause. It was a meaningful occasion, demonstrating the impact of collective action in making a difference for those in need.

Year 5 Mărțișor Assembly
The Year 5 Mărțișor Assembly took place on 1st March. The event featured delightful performances by the pupils, creating a memorable and enjoyable atmosphere. As always, this celebration brings us together as a community and adds a splash of colour, announcing the arrival of Spring. We extend our gratitude to all who attended and contributed to making the event a success.

Book Week
Book Week was celebrated at BSB from 11th to 15th March. Throughout the week, children enjoyed a variety of fun, literature-related activities, a talk and Q&A session with author Anthony McGowan, and dressing up as their favourite book characters on Book Day. Parents were also invited to volunteer for reading sessions.
We appreciate the participation of everyone involved, making it a memorable celebration of reading and literature.

Year 2 Production
The Year 2 Production told the story of the Great Fire of London. Parents were invited to watch our talented Year 2 pupils perform, learning about this important event in history and enjoying the pupils’ artistic skills. It was a wonderful opportunity to share this experience with our community.

Neurodiversity Week
Neurodiversity Week was observed from 18th to 23rd March, dedicated to acknowledging and honouring the diversity of learning styles among individuals. It was a recognition that brains are wired differently, leading to varying challenges and strengths in different people. The event included an assembly for Years 3 to 6, along with various activities planned throughout the week for Primary classes. We were delighted by the way students came together to celebrate the richness of diverse minds and embrace the unique strengths present.

Sister Act Production
Our talented students brought the uproarious story of Deloris Van Cartier, a singer-turned-nun, to life in ‘Sister Act’. The performances on 20th, 21st and 22nd March left the audience smiling and tapping their feet to the rhythm of the music. The cast and crew poured their hearts and souls into delivering an outstanding performance, demonstrating remarkable dedication and hard work. Their passion and commitment shone brightly, making ‘Sister Act’ a memorable and captivating experience for all who attended.

Year 3 Work Showcase
Year 3 hosted an engaging Work Showcase on 27th March, providing parents with the opportunity to see their children’s progress firsthand.

Year 1 Production
The Year 1 Production, titled ‘Poles Apart’, took place on 27th March. The event showcased the talents of our Year 1 pupils in a captivating show where the audience journeyed with polar animals exploring the countries of origin of the children and discovering new aspects about them. We were delighted to welcome all who joined us for this event.

Word Health Day
The World Health Day 2024 event, themed ‘Community for Health’, ran from 25th to 28th March, emphasising collective well-being. Activities included the daily Mile a Day Challenge, Mixed Staff and Students Netball and Volleyball Matches, as well as other activities. Form Time sessions focused on mindfulness and signposting.
