Planet BSB in Action: Learning Sustainability Beyond School

On Sunday, 24th May, around 70 members of the British School of Bucharest Community gathered in Băneasa Forest for the BSB Spring Forest Clean-Up, organised in partnership with Let’s Do It, Romania! as part of the school’s environmental initiative, Planet BSB.

Students, parents and staff spent the morning outdoors, working side by side to help care for one of Bucharest’s most treasured green spaces. By the end of the clean-up, the community had collected around 90 large bags of litter across the forest area.

Learning Through Action

The event quickly became more than a practical environmental initiative. Families walked through the forest paths together, while students experienced first-hand how small collective actions can make a visible difference.

By the end of the morning, around 90 filled bags of litter stood at the meeting point, offering a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared sense of responsibility.

The initiative was supported by three representatives from Let’s Do It, Romania!, who guided participants throughout the event and helped coordinate the clean-up effort.

“It was a real pleasure to see the BSB Community come together with such enthusiasm for the Spring Forest Clean-Up. Together, we helped clean Băneasa Forest, one of Bucharest’s most valued and beautiful green spaces. We would like to thank all the volunteers for putting on their gloves and joining the 3 million volunteers who have taken part in the initiatives organised by Let’s Do It, Romania!,” said Agata Bulei, Project Manager at Let’s Do It, Romania!

Planet BSB and #ConcernForOurPlanet

At the British School of Bucharest, sustainability is part of everyday school life. Through Planet BSB, students are encouraged to understand that caring for the environment begins with awareness, responsibility and action. Guided by the 6 R’s — Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle — they are encouraged to become active and responsible global citizens through meaningful, hands-on experiences such as the Spring Forest Clean-Up, an initiative that reflects one of BSB’s core values — #ConcernForOurPlanet.
