Catering Manager

British School of Bucharest is seeking an experienced, Catering Manager to coordinate internal events and school lunch catering, lead food safety and compliance area, and ensure the highest standards of operational excellence, full regulatory compliance in line with the requirements of the relevant authorities (DSP, DSVSA/ANSVSA, ANPC, etc.)

Key Responsibilities:

Internal events:

  • Coordinate with internal departments regarding the required food menu and quantity for the planned event(s)
  • Ensure the food order is delivered on time and within specifications
  • Check and keep track of invoices from suppliers and coordinate with the Finance department for payment

Food safety and compliance area:

  • Own, implement, and maintain a fully compliant HACCP system across business operations related to the food from the external catering company
  • Conduct daily food safety and operational checks, including: expiry dates, temperature monitoring, hygiene and sanitation, product quality, labelling, and traceability
  • Supervise goods reception, stock traceability, and FIFO/FEFO inventory rotation to minimize losses and discrepancies
  • Prepare and maintain complex food safety and compliance documentation
  • Deliver monthly compliance reports, and identify operational risks and improvement opportunities
  • Ensure permanent audit readiness and act as the main point of contact for DSVSA/ANSVSA, DSP, and ANPC inspections and audits
  • Have a solid knowledge of public health regulations, with the ability to implement and promote compliance across the organisation
  • Manage supplier approval, compliance, and audit processes

Lunch catering:

  • Coordinate with the nutritionist to check that the food ordered from the catering company meets the nutritional and dietary requirements, quality and standards
  • Organize and monitor hygienic workflows in storage and serving areas to prevent cross-contamination
  • Train and support food-handling teams while promoting a strong food safety culture
  • Ensure that all personnel who come into contact with food hold a valid hygiene certificate and any other required authorisations
  • Organise and keep records of staff documentation (occupational health certificates, hygiene training certificates)
  • Monthly audit regarding food safety and compliance with the standard requirements

What we are looking for:

  • Degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Accredited HACCP Certification, Food Hygiene Certification
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in food safety, quality assurance, or regulatory compliance within food service, HoReCa, catering, or food production environments
  • Thorough working knowledge of: EC Regulation 852/2004 & 853/2004, ANSVSA Order 111/2008, Romanian Law 150/2004
  • Strong documentation skills and confidence in maintaining complex, multi-layered compliance records and procedures
  • Fluent Romanian and good English communication skills
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented, and highly accountable professional with strong analytical and coordination skills
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and make operational decisions confidently without requiring escalation of every issue
