Nurture your child’s curiosity in a playful, caring and interactive environment! Join the BSB Early Years Explorers on Wednesdays, from 4th November to 2nd December 2026.

Age: Children who are turning 2 and are due to start Pre-Nursery in September 2027
Sessions: Choose from 5 weekly sessions
Places: Maximum 10 children per session

Why BSB Early Years Explorers?

In the early years, children learn best when they are actively involved, curious and having fun. Every experience is carefully designed to support children’s development through purposeful play – building communication, physical skills, creativity, confidence, independence and relationships.

Rather than focusing on what children make, we focus on what they are learning as they explore. A paintbrush can strengthen the muscles needed for writing; a song can develop language and memory; a story can spark imagination; and a sensory activity can help children understand the world around them.

This is the magic of EYFS: learning is happening all the time, through the experiences children have, the things they explore and the play they enjoy.

What to Expect

Sessions are led by a teacher, with a Teaching Assistant present to support the session, children and parents.
Parents will have the opportunity to observe and participate in activities that support early learning and development.
Children will have opportunities for sandpit and outdoor play.
Staff will be available to support parents with ideas for purposeful play and interaction.

Please note: BSB Early Years Explorers is a parent/carer-accompanied programme. A parent/carer or other responsible adult must remain with and directly supervise the child throughout each session. Children cannot be left in the care of BSB staff during the programme.

Opportunities for children to explore, play and develop social and physical skills.

Wednesday, 4th November – Creative Explorers

EYFS focus: Expressive Arts and Design | Physical Development | Communication and Language

Exploring process art through painting, mark-making and colour exploration.
Children will have opportunities to experiment freely with different materials, tools, colours and techniques.
Activities will be open-ended, with the emphasis on exploring, experimenting and creating, rather than producing a finished product.

Why it matters:
Creative experiences support children to develop their fine-motor control, coordination, confidence and ability to express ideas and feelings. Open-ended art also encourages curiosity, decision-making and the understanding that there can be many different ways to create and explore.

Wednesday, 11th November – Musical Explorers

EYFS focus: Expressive Arts and Design | Communication and Language | Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Exploring instruments, rhythm, sounds and movement.
Singing together and joining in with simple musical games.
Opportunities to develop listening, attention, imitation and turn-taking skills.
Children will explore how sounds can be made, changed and combined.

Why it matters:
Music supports children’s listening and attention, memory, coordination and communication skills, while singing and musical games help children learn to respond to others, take turns and participate as part of a group.

Wednesday, 18th November – Songs & Signs

EYFS focus: Communication and Language | Physical Development | Expressive Arts and Design

Enjoying nursery rhymes, familiar songs and action songs.
Introducing simple signs alongside spoken language.
Using actions, movement, repetition and rhythm to encourage participation.
Creating opportunities for children to communicate, respond and interact with adults and other children.

Why it matters:
Songs, rhymes and actions provide a playful way for children to develop vocabulary, listening, memory and early communication skills. Using simple signs alongside speech can give children additional ways to express their needs, ideas and responses while their spoken language develops.

Wednesday, 25th November – Sensory Mark-Making

EYFS focus: Physical Development | Expressive Arts and Design | Communication and Language

Exploring mark-making through a range of sensory materials.
Using fingers, hands and simple tools to make marks and explore different effects.
Investigating texture, movement, pattern and cause and effect.
Providing opportunities to experiment without the expectation of creating a particular picture or product.

Why it matters:
Sensory mark-making develops the strength, control and coordination needed for future writing, while also encouraging children to notice differences in texture, movement and the effects of their actions. It provides a playful foundation for early writing without making writing itself the focus.

Wednesday, 2nd December – Story & Imagination

EYFS focus: Communication and Language | Literacy | Expressive Arts and Design | Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Exploring stories through props, puppets and small-world resources.
Opportunities to explore characters, sounds, actions and simple imaginative play.
Encouraging children to join in with repeated phrases, sounds and actions.
Using stories as a starting point for conversation, play and shared experiences.

Why it matters:
Stories and imaginative play help children develop language, vocabulary, listening and comprehension, while giving them opportunities to express ideas, recreate experiences and develop their imagination. Shared storytelling also supports children’s confidence in communicating and interacting with others.
