Secondary Learning Support Assistant

From September 2024, The British School of Bucharest is looking for full-time Learning Support Assistant in our Secondary Learning Support Department to provide learning support for students between the ages of 11 and 18 years old with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

The role involves supporting students within the mainstream classroom and on a one-to-one basis as required.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate an interest in working with students with Special Educational Needs, both in a classroom setting, but also on a 1:1 basis.
  • Demonstrate a consistently positive attitude to students with SEN and a commitment to bringing out the best in each student.
  • Be required to demonstrate a willingness and ability to support students in their preparation for the UK national examinations, such as the IGCSE or A level or have prior knowledge and experience of this.
  • Provide support for students in internal and external examination settings who have Access Arrangements and which could include acting as a reader, scribe, prompter or invigilator.
  • Be able to provide evidence that there are no obstacles to working with children (i.e. relevant Romanian or international police and prohibition checks).
  • Be able and willing to commit to continuing professional development in SEN, which may involve courses, studying for qualifications and sharing good practice.
  • Have a high level of English language proficiency.
  • Be willing and able to work collaboratively with colleagues to devise and implement an individualised programme for the student, as well as working in conjunction with our SEN Assessor and School Counsellors.
  • Be sympathetic to working in a multi-cultural and international educational community.
  • Have had some previous experience of working in an educational setting and with children with SEN.
  • Have an outstanding record of attendance, punctuality and professionalism, as well as professional conduct and dress.
  • Have excellent skills in behaviour management.
  • Be able to commit to the post for the full academic year and potentially, beyond.
